A power of attorney (POA) can be the most important document that an individual should have professionally prepared.
The POA grants authority to another individual (agent) to conduct the affairs of the person giving the power if he or she becomes incapacitated.
There are several different types of POAs but everyone should have a durable power of attorney for financial affairs and a durable power of attorney for health matters.
