Elder care encompasses a wide variety of issues. Elder care issues include choosing an appropriate physician to care for an aging patient, and making decisions about moving an elderly person from the home environment to a residential care setting or providing home and community-based services.
Elder care also refers to an array of
care services. Elder care services are comprised of adult day services,
assisted living facilities, hospice care, skilled nursing facilities,
home health care and specialized care services such as geriatric care
management. Elder care services also include many formal services
offered through local and state government programs and are also
provided by non-profit groups, and fee-for-service programs.
Elder
care services are necessary for persons age 65 and older. This age group
is the fastest growing segment of the American population. As people
reach into later years, the need for elder care increases. This
increased need also increases the responsibilities of those who provide
care for them.
Taking on the responsibility for the elder care of a spouse, elderly parents or other loved one is one of life's greatest challenges. Being an elder care provider also provides an opportunity to learn, awaken and better prepare for our own aging process. No one plans to provide elder care for a parent so it typically comes as a surprise, often in response to a "crisis" situation.
Elder Care caregivers usually learn about caregiving as they experience the various responsibilities of care providing. Preparation and planning can help make the process of care taking more beneficial for all. We at the Elder Care Law Center can help you plan properly. Please contact us
